3 types of COVID tests
1) ANTIGEN TEST
Results: Within 60 minutes (rapid point-of-care test).
Details: Recommended to identify if you are currently infected with SARS-COV2.
Test Type: Nasal swab.
Recommendations: If test is negative but you have symptoms, it is recommended that you have a confirmatory PCR test.
2) PCR TEST
Results: Within 24 hours (lab based).
Details: Considered the gold standard of testing if you are currently infected with SARS-COV2, with highest accuracy.
Test Type: Nasal swab OR Throat swab.
Recommendations: For travellers and patients requiring hospital admission.
3) RAPID ANTIBODY TEST
Results: Within 60 minutes (rapid point-of-care test)
Details: Recommended to identify if you have been infected with SARS-COV2 in the past. This test is not used to diagnose current infection.
Test Type: Drop of blood from a finger prick.
